Miklos Hargitay Psy.D.

“Seek not the good in external things; seek it in yourselves.” - Epictetus

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and am primarily trained as trauma-informed, which means I focus primarily on how traumatic experiences, life adversities, and challenges affect how we view ourselves, others, and the world. I am also an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and a Certified EFT Couples Therapist, the most empirically validated model of couples therapy in the field. For individuals and couples who are experiencing distress in their lives, considering how their sexual selves can be improved is vital. Few therapists talk about the role of sexuality in clients' lives and how improving it can lead to a greater quality of life.

For couples experiencing stress and difficulty connecting, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) is an empirically valid intervention focusing on how to help couples identify negative feedback cycles that can lead to chronic disconnection. EFT is experiential, meaning couples are making behavior changes both in sessions and between sessions.

Dr. Hargitay's podcast interview on Sexology with Dr. Nazanin Moali discusses how couples can navigate intimacy when one partner has been sexually assaulted. Dr Hargitay talks about common roadblocks to restarting intimacy, how significant others can be as a vital resource for survivors, and ways to engage in sex in a trauma-focused manner.
